Kassel, September 11, 2023: Two Article 9 funds advised by EB – Sustainable Investment Management GmbH (EB-SIM) are investing in a German wind farm repowering project by wiwi consult GmbH & Co KG. The Mainz-based company is acting as both project developer and general contractor. For the sustainable asset manager EB-SIM, the project in Gau-Bickelheim, which is divided into three construction phases, is the largest successfully completed single transaction in the renewable energies sector to date.

When selling this repowering project, wiwi consult GmbH & Co. KG was looking for a trustworthy asset manager who would implement it hand in hand with them and at the same time share their commitment to sustainable business and the energy transition. Following a comprehensive evaluation process, EB-SIM, which exclusively offers and manages sustainable and impact-oriented funds, was chosen.

“We look forward to working with wiwi consult to further develop the established wind site in Gau-Bickelheim in the future,” says Dr. Bernhard Graeber, Managing Director and Head of Alternative Assets at EB-SIM. “As EB-SIM, we strive to achieve both ecologically and economically positive returns for our investors. The acquisition of this wind farm perfectly complements the portfolios we manage, which we have been able to further diversify through the construction and repowering project. It will significantly increase the production of green energy at the site, and some of the old turbines and materials can be reused directly on site.”

The total output of the wind farm being built, with 18 Enercon E-160 turbines, will be around 100 megawatts. The first three turbines are expected to produce green electricity from October 2023. The 15 additional turbines will follow in two further construction phases from 2024. The BImSchG approval for the third construction phase is currently still pending. However, approval is expected soon, as wiwi consult received BImSchG approval for the second construction phase within just 76 days of submitting the application.

“We are looking forward to the further joint implementation of the project and the trust that EB-SIM has placed in us with the investment in the Gau-Bickelheim wind farm planned by us,” says Michael Böhm, Managing Director of wiwi consult, adding: “The Gau-Bickelheim wind farm represents the largest project in our eight-year company history to date and underlines the performance and efficiency of our experienced project development team.”
